Four lessons, no strings…

Detective Rafe Davenport has always made Courtney DeLollis uneasy. While her instincts whisper, Touch him, her mind says, Run. But since she learned that he’s dominant in the bedroom, she hasn’t been able to forget about it. She should be appalled—she knows all too well what happens when a man has too much control—but a deeper, darker part of her is fascinated...

And so is Rafe. The sexual tension between them is thick enough to touch, and damn, does he want to touch. So he suggests something that will benefit them both. Four scenes—because anything more is a relationship, and Rafe won’t go there ever again. Each scenario is designed to tease and torment. To show Courtney that with every submission comes the reward of scintillating pleasure. But once he has Courtney down on her knees, Rafe realizes that she might be the one woman capable of bringing him to his…
I've had mixed luck with Brazen books and it's honestly made me wary to try out new authors in the line, but Christine Bell is an author who  has come highly recommended by friends. I picked up Down on Her Knees while I was suffering through extreme boredom one Saturday evening and read it in one sitting. I'm happy to have found another author whose Brazen books I think I'm going to love.

I immediately knew after reading the first scene in Down on Her Knees that I was going to like Courtney and Rafe, the couple featured in this book, a whole lot. Their first scene sizzled with chemistry and had me eager in anticipation for when they would finally give in to their attractions. Individually, both Rafe and Courtney were great characters. Rafe was very much of a closed-off hero, a loved one's death having left him broken on the inside. He stays away from relationships because he doesn't want to be hurt again. Instead he channels all that grief and hurt into a life of BDSM.

Courtney, too, had been hurt in the past in the form of an emotionally abusive relationship. Her partner at the time was controlling and didn't let her live her life the way she wanted to, even going as far as to putting a curfew on her. When Rafe proposes a four-sexy-scenario because he wants to give in to their intense chemistry, Courtney is admittedly hesitant because she knows about his BDSM lifestye and doesn't want another controlling man in her life.Courtney became a lot braver throughout the book and I loved watching her confidence come to the surface as she slowly overcame the scars that her previous relationship had left her in.

When Courtney and Rafe finally gave in to their intense attraction, it was hot as Hades! The sexy times scenes were really well-written and were the kind that had me fanning myself because holy creativity! I didn't realize this was going to have BDSM when I first picked it up - it's not something that I enjoy reading about, but thankfully here, it was more BDSM-lite, which I appreciated. What made this Brazen book work for me was definitely the tension between Courtney and Rafe. I also enjoyed the scenes of them out of the bedroom a lot and it was fun watching them become emotionally attached even though neither set out on this relationship looking for romance.

Overall, Down on Her Knees was a fun and sexy read that I don't regret picking up. If you're into short, sweet and steamy, this is a book you should most definitely pick up! I, for one, will definitely be going back and reading the rest of the books in the Dare Me series.
