Cris' Reading Update

Hey people. I've been kind of missing from this blog, and for that I'm very very sorry. I think I mentioned in a previous post that I'm changing jobs inside my company, and I've been in a gruesome training for 6 weeks now. It's been amazing, but exhausting, and I haven't had much time to prepare any post. Again, sorry!

I thought about doing something different this time, and do a little update of what I've been reading this past month, and what I'll be reading during the month of October - kind of like a September wrap-up and an October TBR. Very original, I know... =P

During the month of September I heard a bunch of audiobooks, because of my commute to my training place (and the fact that for most of the month, I didn't have my car). I read some fantastic ones, and I was finally able to finish the Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid, and I LOVED the books, and they all work amazingly on audio. I also started the Spindle Cove series by Tessa Dare, also on audio, and I'm enjoying that so much too. I also read Professor Feelgood (Masters of Love, #2) by Leisa Rayven, and really liked it, though I need to write the review for the book ASAP.

I also read Once Upon a Real Good Time (Heartbreakers, #1) by Lauren Blakely, though I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. The writing somehow didn't quite feel like Blakely, but I still want to get my hands on the other 2 books of the series, but I might give them a try in audio format, because Lauren Blakely's books usually work wonderfully in audio.

Finally, I gave Let's Get Textual by Teagan Hunter a chance, and I absolutely loved it.

I didn't read as many books in September as I had on the previous month, but I was still happy with the ones I read.

Now, for October, I plan to continue my Tessa Dare saga, as soon as Scribd allows me to listen to her books again. Here's what I'm reading:

The first book I already read this month was Love Sincerely Yours by Meghan Quinn and Sara Ney, and I'm sorry to say that it didn't blow me away... but my review will be out on the 13th. Then I'm about to finish the Spindle Cove series by Tessa Dare, but I need to read the Castles Ever After series, because one book is related to both series.

Then, because Scribd was mean to mean and temporarily took out most of my saved list, I'm listening to Falling from the Sky by Sarina Bowen, let's see if I like this one better than the first book in the series. Afterwards, I'll probably read The Jerk Duet by Max Monroe, which will most likely be hilarious. And finally, I want to read I Wanna Text You Up by Teagan Hunter, and see if I like it as much as the first book, which I'm betting I will.
Have you guys read any of these books? Any thoughts?!

The accidental governess.
After her livelihood slips through her fingers, Alexandra Mountbatten takes on an impossible post: transforming a pair of wild orphans into proper young ladies. However, the girls don’t need discipline. They need a loving home. Try telling that to their guardian, Chase Reynaud: duke’s heir in the streets and devil in the sheets. The ladies of London have tried — and failed — to make him settle down. Somehow, Alexandra must reach his heart... without risking her own.
The infamous rake.
Like any self-respecting libertine, Chase lives by one rule: no attachments. When a stubborn little governess tries to reform him, he decides to give her an education — in pleasure. Cris' Favorite Books of 2018 (so far...)

Hey guys! I didn't post last week, sorry, but life was a bit hectic. However, this week, I thought I would show you my 11 favorites of this year so far.

I'm going for books I've READ this year, and not books that have come out this year, otherwise I would need to leave out books I loved and I don't want that.

"I would love you forever, if I only had the chance..."
Kacey Dawson has always lived life on the edge--impulsively, sometimes recklessly. And now, as lead guitarist for a hot up-and-coming band, she is poised at the brink of fame and fortune. But she is torn between wanting to be a serious musician, and the demons that lure her down the glittering, but alcohol-soaked path of rock stardom. A wrecked concert in Las Vegas threatens to ruin her career entirely. She wakes up with the hangover from hell and no memory of the night before, or how she ended up on her limo driver’s couch...
Jonah Fletcher is running out of time. He knows his situation is hopeless, and he's vowed to make the most of the handful of months he has left to him. His plans include seeing the opening of his glass installation at a prestigious art gallery…they do not include falling in love with a wild, tempestuous rock musician who wound up passed out on his couch.
Jonah sees that Kacey is on a path to self-destruction. He lets her crash with him for a few days to dry out and get her head on straight. But neither of them expected the deep connection they felt, or how that connection could grow so fast from friendship into something more. Something deep and pure and life-changing…something as fragile as glass, that they both know will shatter in the end no matter how hard they try to hold on to it.
Full Tilt is a story about what it means to love with your whole heart, to sacrifice, to experience terrible grief and soaring joy. To live life with all its beauty, and all its pain, and in the end to be able to smile through tears and know you wouldn’t have changed a thing.

The second time I ran into her, it was a random coincidence.
The third?
I didn’t know it at the time, but she was the girl I was going to marry.

One punch took him from Hollywood’s Golden Boy to Bad Boy Brody.
The media didn’t care he was grieving his brother’s death. They descended on him, but to change his reputation, his manager got him a deal.
Act in an indie film, one that already had Oscar buzz, and he’d get the movie roles he needed to secure his future.
He took the deal.
Yet he wasn’t prepared for the real-life people behind the script. He wasn’t prepared for the murder the movie was based on. And he really wasn’t prepared for her, the biggest secret of all.
She was wild. She was beautiful. She defied gravity.
But was she the leading role that would tame him?
So, have you read any of these books?
What are your thoughts?

I read my first London Hale series, and I loved it! Temperance Falls: Experience Counts.

People... A few days ago I got a book on kindle for free, and the title was a bit cringe worthy (Daddy's Best Friend) but the blurb sounded good, so why not, right?!

I read another romance where the girl was in love with her father's BFF, and I didn't really like it, and was so disappointed with it, that I decided to give a shot to this weird titled novella I had just lying there on my kindle. I also realised that Nick, Lisa and Ari had all read this book and kind of liked it, so I was intrigued. I'M SO GLAD I DID!

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.
Playing house was never so much fun — or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running — especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though!
Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

I listened to Tycoon and I didn't like it

HEYYYYY!

I feel like I haven't posted here in ages, but it has only been a couple of weeks... SORRY! I've been so busy, and I haven't had much time to stop by. Also, I've been extremely occupied watching the World Cup :D (Portugal just moved forward to the round of 16, and I'm super excited about it).

Now, talking about books. I haven't been reading/listening much this month, again, been super busy, but I wanted to talk to you guys about a book that I didn't like. Yeah, I usually don't purposefully write reviews about books I didn't like, unless they're for ARCs, but this one just annoyed me, and I wanted to talk about it.

So, here it is, my review of Tycoon by Katy Evans. This was my first book by her, btw...

Another Amazing Series: Forbidden Hearts by Alisha Rai

Hey guys!

My last post was a bit different, but there I mentioned that I was going to read book 2 of the Forbidden Hearts series during my vacation, and I did, which means I finally finished the series. YAY!

Alisha Rai was an author recommended to me by Lisa and Nick when I first started blogging with them, so I thought it was only natural to give my take on the 3 books here.

Vacations! What to read or listen to?

Hey people!

If the title didn't give it away, let me tell you again, I'm on vacation! I decided to do something I hadn't done since I was around 18, and me and a friend booked a trip to Saidia in Morocco, for 7 days of doing nothing, except going to the beach and the pool.

So I thought I could share with you what I'm reading and listening to while I'm here. Sounds good?!

Dr. ER (St. Luke's Docuseries #2) by Max Monroe
Dr. Erotic.
That’s what they’ve decided to call me, Scott Shepard, the head of St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Department.
Just thinking about it makes me smile.
As the new face of the reality docuseries, The Doctor Is In, I plan to take his power and recognition right to the streets of New York City and into the pants of willing women.
Well, that was my plan. Until her — feisty, beautiful, and addictively sexy Harlow Paige.
A gossip columnist that just loves writing about yours truly, she’s everything I thought I never wanted and then some.
She drives me crazy.
Problem is, she doesn’t want to be anything when it comes to me — not friends, not lovers, not even adversaries.
God, I love a good challenge.
Get ready, Harlow. Love is contagious.
I'd been listening to this audiobook for a couple days, so I really wanted to finish it on my trip. Lying on the sun is a perfect time to listen to audio books, as long as the urge to sleep doesn't overpower you.

I've actually finished it, and it was yet another amazing book by Max Monroe. They have quickly become one of my favorite authors to read.

Wrong to Need You (Forbidden Hearts #2) by Alisha Rai
He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with his brother’s widow…
Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Jackson Kane fled his home, his name, and his family. Ten years later, he’s come back to town: older, wiser, richer, tougher — and still helpless to turn away the one woman he could never stop loving, even after she married his brother.
Sadia Ahmed can’t deal with the feelings her mysterious former brother-in-law stirs, but she also can’t turn down his offer of help with the cafe she’s inherited. While he heats up her kitchen, she slowly discovers that the boy she adored has grown into a man she’s simply unable to resist.
An affair is unthinkable, but their desire is undeniable. As secrets and lies are stripped away, Sadia and Jackson must decide if they’re strong enough to face the past...and step into a future together.
I've been wanting to get to this book for awhile now, and now I cannot put it down. I'm almost done with it, and loving it. Jackson and Sadia are the best and they deserve everything good.

I made amazing progress on this book today, because it's cold as hell today, and I was chilling by the pool completely dressed, with my kindle at hand.

Part-Time Lover (Part-Time Lover #1) by Lauren Blakely
I’ll say this about Christian — he made one hell of a first impression.
When I first saw the strapping man, he was doing handstands naked on a dock along the canal. His crown jewels were far more entertaining than anything else I’d seen on the boat tour, so I did what any curious woman would do — I took his photo. I might have looked at the shot a few dozen times. Little did I know I’d meet him again, a year later, at a secret garden bar in the heart of the city, where I’d learn that his mind and his mouth were even more captivating. But given the way my heart had been trampled, I wanted only a simple deal — No strings. No expectations.
Our arrangement worked well enough until the day I needed a lot more from him…
***
Let me just say, this whole part-time lover thing was her idea. I’d have gone all-in from the start, but hey, when a gorgeous, brilliant woman invites you into her bed, and only her bed…well, I said yes.
But then, one hysterical phone call from my brother later, begging me to find myself a wife so grandfather’s business stays in the family, and I need a promotion with Elise. Turns out a full-time husband suits her needs too, and a temporary marriage of convenience ought to do the trick, until we can simply untie the knot…
As long as no one finds out…
As long as no one gets hurt…
As long as no one falls in love…
But our ending was one I never saw coming.
I'm so happy that I was given the opportunity to review this audiobook. I love Lauren Blakely and I absolutely love audiobooks, so a match made in heaven.

I've only started this one yesterday and haven't made much progress, but I hope to get an advance on it tomorrow and the day after, and finish it way before I get on the plane back home.

The Varlet and the Voyeur (Rugby #4) by L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid
He kept his salacious secret for years. But soon, everyone is going to be reading about it in their morning paper…
THE VARLET (and the VOYEUR)
William Moore is a long way from home. A farm boy from Oklahoma, he’s now the most well-respected member of the Irish rugby team. But appearances are often deceptive, and Will isn’t the clean-cut, all-American good-guy everyone imagines him to be. He’s got a secret, one that will tarnish his reputation forever.
THE VOYEUR (and the VARLET)
Josey Kavanagh is a self-proclaimed mess, but she’s finally getting her shi…uh, act together. She’s set her sights on becoming a veterinarian, but there’s one teeny tiny road bump. Her living arrangements are coming to an abrupt end, leaving Josey homeless and in need of a job to pay her way through college.
THE PLAN
What he needs is a companion to keep him on the right path.
What she needs is an apartment with free rent.
Will is convinced Josey will make the perfect companion, since she’s brutally honest and basically ‘just one of the guys.’ Josey is convinced she can ensure Will doesn’t succumb to his voyeuristic proclivities by keeping a scrupulous eye on him.
Except, what happens when the varlet is tempted by the voyeur, and vice-versa?!
Perchance something very, very volatile. And vexing.
I've had this ARC for a few weeks now, but given that the release day is just around the corner, I should probably start reading it, right?!

I've really liked this series so far, and I thought the books have been getting better, so I'm excited to see what this one will bring.

These are the books I'm definitly reading during my stay here in Saïdia. I might try to squeeze a few others in, but I'm not sure I'll have the time.

So, have you read any of these books?
What are your thoughts?
