True heroes will do anything to protect the women they love...
As the newest recruit at Search and Protect, Raul has a lot to prove. Luckily, he's got the best friend and partner a man could ask for: a highly trained, fiercely loyal German Shepherd Dog named Taz. Together, Raul and Taz make an unbeatable team. But their first mission in Hawaii really puts them to the test when an international kidnapping ring sets its sights on the bravest woman Raul's ever met...
Mali knows her latest job has put one hell of a target on her back. And on this small island paradise, there's nowhere to hide. With a service dog like Taz, Mali feels safe. Sharing close quarters with a smoldering muscle-for-hire like Raul, she feels something else - an unexpected wave of desire. Raul feels it too. But when the kidnappers make their move, he's got to turn that slow-burning passion into hard-hitting action - and save the life of the woman he loves.

EXCERPT

When eighty-five pounds of dog is suddenly in your way, you either stop or trip over him. Momentum played a part in Raul’s decision. He fell forward and spread his arms wide to catch himself on the bed rather than accidentally catch a handful of Mali’s towel.

He caught a face full of her towel-covered cleavage instead.

Mali squeaked.

Raul rolled to the side.

Taz barked.

“Sorry.” Jeezus. He tried to get out his apology, his eyes clamped shut. He was not going to remember how good she smelled, a mixture of honey and sea salt and the indefinable, delicate scent of woman. Nope. He wasn’t. Nor was he going to ever think about how nice her cleavage had been. Just enough to bury his face and let him nuzzle without being so full he’d suffocate. The palms of his hands burned with an insane desire to feel her soft skin cupped in his grip.

Mali backed away and then hissed in pain.

His head cleared, and he opened his eyes to see nothing but ceiling. “Did I hurt you? Do you need help?”

She leaned forward into his range of view, one hand clutching the front of her towel over her breasts. That was a really hot image, too. “No. I just sat back too fast and put weight on my sunburn.”

“Oh.” He had no idea what to do. He couldn’t sit up while she was leaning over him and rolling to the side seemed awkward as hell. Of course, so did lying flat on his back in front of a woman in nothing but a towel. “Is there something I can do to get out of this situation without Arin wanting to kill me?”

Mali’s eyes widened, and she froze for a moment, her lips forming a seriously naughty looking O. Then she blinked and laughed. “No. Probably not.”

It was either laugh with her or pull her down for a kiss. “I’m doomed. Dead.” He paused. “Once I get you safely to Arin, that is. No worries. We’ll get you to her before I report myself for molesting her little sister.”

Her laughter faded, and her dark brown eyes sparkled with mischief. “Well, if you’re going to get in trouble anyway…”

She bent then, leaning a hand on his chest, and pressed her lips to his.

Hi, guys! How are you all doing?

Can you believe that it's almost the end of November? I feel swamped with a thousand things at once because the semester is ending and deadlines, deadlines, deadlines...

Boring stuff aside, I'm in the middle of bingeing Kaylea Cross' Hostage Rescue Team series. I love a good romantic suspense series, and I reviewed the first two books in this post. I also finished a contemporary romance featuring a recently widowed father of two and his late wife's best friend. Sounds cliche and a bit tacky too? at first but the author did a great job building their relationship and navigating issues like grief and guilt.

Now, onwards!

When My Favorite Authors Continue To Slay

Hello friends!

How are you all doing? I had to take a bit of a break last week because I forgot to post ... oops? But anyways, I'm back! I'm happy to say my reading slump is gone. I'm not reading as much as I did in the summer, but I AM reading, which I think is cause for celebration. :) I've read a few romance books lately, so I thought I'd briefly chat with you all about them. Unfortunately, I've also had some DNFs! So boo! :(

Also, do you see this shiny new banner below? Mana made it for us, and I love it!

Check out my quick thoughts for some of my recent reads below!

UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION by Katee Robert [★★★]
You may have heard me singing all the praises for this AMAZING series by Katee Robert on Nick & Nereyda's Infinite Booklist before. But I'm here to tell you, if you STILL haven't checked this series about a mob family yet, what are you even doing??? Anyways, I was quite eager to read Undercover Attraction. It features the head of the family, Aiden, and though he has done some shifty things to his siblings in the past in the name of protecting, I knew there was a lot more to him. And there definitely is! In Undercover Attraction, Aiden is trying to undermine everyone's favorite bastard, Dmitri, and he finds himself seeking the help of an ex-cop, Charlotte in his mission. Of course, what ensues is the stoic man winds up falling hopelessly in love with Charlie. I loved Aiden so much more than I thought I would. I don't know how Katee manages to write compelling characters. You can tell that Aiden was battling a lot with his conflicting emotions. He wants to protect his family, but he also wants to keep them happy, and often times those don't go hand in hand. Despite all the vitriol he faced from his siblings though, there was nothing but love on his side for them. Charlie was a great girl to balance him out. She too has her own baggage, but the girl was fierce af. The chemistry between the two simmers and slowly builds up over the course of the book. Seriously, Katee knows how to write good romance. I loved watching the two fall for each other - I had all the butterflies in my tummy! I've also got to mention all the scenes featuring Dmitri and Keira and OMG, I'm so pumped for the last book, The Bastard's Bargain. I'm ready to be inside Dmitri's head. So yes, I hope you give this series a try if you haven't read it yet ... otherwise we can't be pals!

When a post does not have a theme, but here are two great romantic suspense novels and two "meh" contemporaries

Hey folks!

I hope everyone is having a good Wednesday, and your week is going well! Hopefully, you all are reading some good book!

I'm here to share some of my thoughts on some recent romance books that I've read. There's not a particularly over-arching theme in this post. It's going to be a post featuring varying genres, but they all contain some kind of romance! I have two romantic suspense reviews for you - spoiler alert, I loved those two! I also have two contemporaries, one about a nanny and a famous DJ and another about lawyers.

Take a look at what I thought about them!
EXTREME EXPOSURE by Pamela Clare [★★★1/2]

I picked Extreme Exposure up thanks to Lisa's reviews for books 2-4. I love romances with suspense themes in them, but unfortunately have not read many either. This was a good start to the series, and I enjoyed it a whole lot. What was unique here for me was that the book features an investigative reporter and a senator- I don't think I've read a romance that was so heavily entrenched in politics. It was an experience, and a good one! The characters in Extreme Exposure were a well-developed cast, and Pamela Clare took her time to flesh them out into realistic individuals. Kara and I formed an instant connection. I liked how independent, ruthless and hardworking she was. As a single mother, things tended to be hard for her in many ways, and I especially liked how Clare explores the balance between work and family life here. But Kara does her best for her daughter, and you can just tell that her whole revolves around her kid and her job. Speaking of her job, she's an investigative journalistic like I mentioned above, and a damn good one at that. Her career was so interesting to me. I don't think I quite realized just how dangerous the life of a reporter can actually get. Reece was a fantastic hero too. He's an alpha, but he also has a very sensitive side to him. All throughout Extreme Exposure, he is patient, gentle and loving towards Kara. Their romance was just lovely and I enjoyed watching the progression of their relationship. The plot in Extreme Exposure which involved corrupt companies, unethical politicians, and pollution, was fantastic and held my attention all throughout. I was on the edge of my seat all throughout the book! If you're looking for a romantic suspense novel that's different from most of what's out there, Extreme Exposure is a book for you!

Mmhmm, men in uniform!

Hey, guys!

Remember how I said I’ll be posting on Thursdays? Yeah well turns out I’m not so good at following up with my own plans, LOL. This week has been a pretty busy one for me, and I totally forgot how time-consuming it is to work on a blog post. I definitely have to start drafting earlier next week! *crosses fingers*

I’ve been on a rereading streak this week and the books I read gave me an idea on what to write. Previously I mentioned about having a thing for the age gap trope in romance, so today I’m going to talk about another favourite trope of mine—men in uniforms. When I started reading romance, I devoured a whole lot of books featuring cops, military men (my fav), firefighters, paramedics, federal agents…you get my drift. And I still do, obviously. I usually gravitate towards alpha heroes; the bossier the better, LOL.

Anyway, onwards!

Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the "values" Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at "hello," even if she's more inclined to say good-bye to an O'Malley. 5 Reasons To Pick Up The Everything I Left Unsaid Duology by M O'Keefe

I'm very very ashamed to admit this, but even though I binged this duology last year after grabbing copies from NetGalley and loving the heck out of them, I never got around to reviewing them. I was going through a difficult time at the time and it must have slipped my mind. Anyways, I found myself re-reading bits and pieces of this one that I had loved and gahh my obsession with the series surged right back up. Instead of doing one of my typical reviews for this series, I thought I'd do a list review, because this is one of those books where I know I'll spoil readers if I ramble about it.
